Sinds de oprichting heeft het Leerorkest een enorme vlucht genomen. Inmiddels leren in Amsterdam jaarlijks bijna 5.000 kinderen een muziekinstrument bespelen. Op en rond scholen. In die wijken waar extra aandacht hard nodig is. Ook buiten Amsterdam schieten de Leerorkesten als paddenstoelen uit de grond. Er is een Instrumentendepot opgezet, met duizenden instrumenten in beheer, waar tientallen muziekeducatieprojecten in heel Nederland gebruik van maken.
Het Leerorkest wil ieder kind de kans geven om een instrument te leren bespelen en samen muziek te maken. De muzikale ontplooiing in een Leerorkest geeft jongeren die vaardigheden die zij hard nodig hebben voor de 21e eeuw. Muziek maken geeft een boost aan de sociale vaardigheden, de emotionele en cognitieve ontwikkeling van kinderen. Met een Leerorkest op school krijgt ieder kind de kans om de positieve effecten van muziek maken te ervaren.
