Der Lehrstuhl für Mittelstand, Existenzgründung und Entrepreneurship (kurz: LEMEX) der Universiät Bremen widmet sich der Entstehung und Ausreifung neuer Geschäftskonzepte sowie deren Erneuerung. Dazu wird der Kontext der Gründung von Unternehmen ebenso betrachtet wie Corporate Entrepreneurship-Initiativen der Neugeschäftsgenerierung in etablierten Betrieben.
In der Forschung hat der Lehrstuhl zwei Schwerpunkte: Start-up Ecosystems und transnationale Gründungen. Zum einen werden die Mechanismen der Entwicklung von erfolgreichen Gründerlandschaften untersucht, wobei primär technologiegetriebene, wissensbasierte und Dienstleistungsgründungen im Vordergrund stehen. Zum anderen untersucht der Lehrstuhl die Gründungstätigkeit von Migranten, Diaspora sowie Geflüchteten.
Die Forschung wird durch eine Gründerlehre arrondiert, die praxis- und problembasiertes Lernen ebenso betont wie forschende Lehre im Projektkontext.
Darüber hinaus engagiert sich der Lehrstuhl im Wissenschaftstransfer durch Veranstaltungen, die die Start-up-Dynamik fördern, sowie solche, die dem unternehmerischen Denken und Handeln gewidmet sind. Mit der Praxis werden Transferprojekte durchgeführt, die auf die Entwicklung neuer Geschäftsmodelle sowie die Geschäftsmodelltransformation zielen und im Schwerpunkt im Bereich der digitalen Transformation angesiedelt sind.
