For one fall weekend each year, the historic Lake Garnett Raceway comes back to life with the roar of powerful engines and the smell of high-octane fuel, as sports cars from every era descend on the small heartland town of Garnett, Kansas. Comprised of nearly 300-acres, the North Lake Park in Garnett, KS, once played host to some of the most popular sports car events in the Midwest. From 1959-1972, nationally sanctioned races were held at the track, which drew hundreds of participants and tens-of-thousands of thousands of spectators, who came to see such legendary names as Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, Jim Hall, Dave MacDonald, Don Yenko, and many more. After the roar of the engines stopped, the course became a serene city park and more than 40 years passed before a Garnett resident had the desire to reignite the spark. CB Harris, along with his wife Cheryl and their two sons, wanted to commemorate the “ghost track” and founded the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival. The Harris family, along with a small group of sports car enthusiasts from the region who shared their vision, put on the inaugural event in 2014 - which was more successful than they imagined. Since then, The Revival has become one of the premier vintage and sports car events in the region, with a multi-day format that includes high-performance driving exhibitions around the old 2.8 mile race track, the EKAE autocross at the Garnett Municipal Airport, the Revival Showcase car show in downtown Garnett, and the chance for spectators to get a ride around the track in one of 40-different high-performance cars during the VALOMILK Charity Rides. Spectator admission and parking is free, and the LGGPR group encourages families and car enthusiasts of all ages to come celebrate these amazing automobiles.
