About This Material:
We use the words cannabis and marijuana almost interchangeably. Cannabis, the Latin word used by botanists and doctors, is more respectable, but marijuana is the word used more commonly by the activists who launched the movement in the late 20th century. Also, it sounds mellower and it was imported from Mexico.
Articles written for O'Shaughnessy's, the Journal of Cannabis in Clinical Practice, frame this history. There are also articles written for The Anderson Valley Advertiser and Counterpunch.org, and many pieces not previously published.
