An historic city nestled in the verdant Sichuan mountains, Meizhou is renowned for its serene beauty and abundant natural resources. The childhood home of Meizhou Dongpo founder, Wang Gang, Meizhou is known as the birthplace of pandas and bamboo forests and of the great Song Dynasty poet and gastronome, Su Dongpo.
Who is Dongpo?
Often referred to as the original lifestyle guru, Su “Dongpo” Shi (1037~1101) was a renowned renaissance man at the peak of imperial China’s Song dynasty. Best recognized by his pseudonym, “Dongpo,” he was a celebrated master of poetry, prose, calligraphy, painting, politics, pharmacology, and gastronomy – with his singularly unique style of cuisine giving birth to avant-garde signature dishes such as Dongpo Pork and Dongpo bamboo shoots.
