De Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) zijn een universele oproep tot actie om een einde te maken aan armoede, de planeet te beschermen en de levens en vooruitzichten van mensen over de hele wereld te verbeteren. In 2015 keurden alle lidstaten van de Verenigde Naties 17 doelen goed als onderdeel van de 2030-agenda voor duurzame ontwikkeling, waarin een plan is vastgelegd om de doelen in 15 jaar te bereiken.
Er wordt momenteel op veel plaatsen vooruitgang geboekt, maar de algemene actie om de doelstellingen te bereiken verloopt nog steeds niet met de vereiste snelheid en schaal.
