Die Arbeit unserer Professur zielt darauf ab, zu verstehen, zu beschreiben und zu erklären, wie in öffentlichen Organisationen gesteuert und geführt wird. Dafür untersuchen wir öffentliche Verwaltungsorganisationen, ihre Führungskräfte und Fachkräfte mit Steuerungsaufgaben. Basierend auf dieser Forschung tragen wir über unterschiedliche Kanäle zur Weiterentwicklung der Public-Management-Praxis und damit zu Leistungsverbesserungen (in) der Verwaltung bei. Dementsprechend ist es unser Anspruch in unseren Seminaren und Vorlesungen die zukünftigen Change Agents der Verwaltung auszubilden.
Im Mittelpunkt unseres Forschungsinteresses stehen drei Themenkomplexe: Erstens untersuchen wir, was Public Manager:innen tatsächlich tun, wie sie es tun und warum – insbesondere bei der Bewältigung von Herausforderungen wie der Digitalisierung, mit denen sie in ihrem Kontext konfrontiert werden. Zweitens haben wir ein besonderes Erkenntnisinteresse an Verwaltungsroutinen und der Steuerung von Veränderungsprozessen sowie deren kommunikativer Dimension in Organisationen. Drittens wollen wir grundsätzlich verstehen, wie sich das strategische Management, die Steuerung der Ressourcenbasis und die organisationalen Fähigkeiten von Verwaltungen auf deren Handlungen und Performance auswirken.
