Since its beginnings in 1986, Shortland Chambers has been home to New Zealand’s highest calibre barristers.
A high proportion of former members have gone on to become judges of the Court of Appeal, High Court and District Courts. Currently, 20 of our 37 members are KCs – more than any chambers in New Zealand, and testament to the quality of expert advice and advocacy on offer.

Our members operate as independent practitioners, sharing facilities and resources, and sometimes working together combining their skills and breadth of experience. This perfectly positions them to tackle complex or unusual disputes.
Past and present members serve on the executives of the New Zealand Bar Association, the New Zealand Law Society, the Auckland District Law Society, the Legal Research Foundation and other professional groups.
Collectively our members practice in a broad range of specialisations, including commercial, civil, criminal and regulatory. Some members also act as mediators and arbitrators.
