Responsibly produced products, domestic food security and taking care of biodiversity is now more important than ever.
Honey is a highly regulated food product in EU and as an association we monitor the interests of clean and high-quality Finnish honey.
The number of productive hives in Finland is currently about 85,000 and the number of beekeepers in Finland about 3,200.
About 45 kilos of honey is produced per hive. In recent years, 800 grams of honey has been consumed per capita per year. However, pollination is the most valuable product of beekeeping. It is estimated that the value of bee pollination is nearly 12 times the value of honey. Pollination services provided by beekeepers e.g. berry and fruit growers are on the rise just like the consumption of domestic honey.
