About Finnish Beekeepers' Association

The Finnish Beekeepers' Association - is the roof organization of Finnish beekeeping associations - develops the entire field of beekeeping and profitable apiculture in Finland - aims to secure the pollination needs of both wild and cultivated plants - organizes trainings and produces educational and promotional materials - offers information and advice on bees, honey quality, honey production and pollination service etc. - also promotes the conservation of other pollinating insects Finnish Beekeepers' Association, founded in 1906, is the umbrella organization of associations engaged in professional honey production and unprofessional beekeeping and related activities. Association currently includes 32 local associations. Association develops beekeeping skills and profitable beekeeping, secures the need for pollination of crops and wild plants, organizes training and produces materials, conducts research and monitors the quality of honey sold in Finland. Association is also involved in other pollinating insects. Responsibly produced products, domestic food security and taking care of biodiversity is now more important than ever. Honey is a highly regulated food product in EU and as an association we monitor the interests of clean and high-quality Finnish honey. The number of productive hives in Finland is currently about 85,000 and the number of beekeepers in Finland about 3,200. About 45 kilos of honey is produced per hive. In recent years, 800 grams of honey has been consumed per capita per year. However, pollination is the most valuable product of beekeeping. It is estimated that the value of bee pollination is nearly 12 times the value of honey. Pollination services provided by beekeepers e.g. berry and fruit growers are on the rise just like the consumption of domestic honey.
