Sinds de oprichting in 1980 is het financieren van onderzoek het hoofddoel van de stichting. Het kost minimaal € 70.000 per jaar om één wetenschapper een jaar lang onderzoek naar MS te laten doen. In bijna 45 jaar heeft Stichting MS Research in totaal meer dan € 77 miljoen toegekend aan 430 onderzoeken. De stichting geeft structurele financiële steun aan academische MS-centra gespecialiseerd in zorg en onderzoek en de Hersenbank voor MS.
MS is letterlijk en figuurlijk een zenuwslopende ziekte die jonge mensen treft in de bloei van hun leven. Het is de meest invaliderende ziekte bij jong volwassenen en is helaas (nog) niet te genezen. De ziekte van de hersenen en het ruggenmerg leidt tot klachten van diverse aard: zoals uitval van spieren, extreme vermoeidheid, verlies van zicht- en spraakvermogen, maar ook geheugen- en concentratie problemen. Zolang er onderzoek is, is er hoop. Draag bij aan een toekomst zónder MS. Onderzoek helpt MS de wereld uit.
