Seit 1999 engagieren wir uns für Natur-, Moor- und Klimaschutz und sind heute eine weltweit vernetzte Naturschutzinstitution. Prof. em. Dr. Michael Succow gründete unsere gemeinnützige und operativ arbeitende Stiftung mit dem Preisgeld des ihm verliehenen Right Livelihood Award.
Heute setzen sich circa 50 Mitarbeitende für den Schutz und die nachhaltige Nutzung der Ökosysteme unserer Erde auf mehreren Kontinenten ein.
Wir sind uns sicher, dass unsere Moore nass und unsere Wälder naturnah sein müssen. Wir setzen uns für eine naturverträgliche Landnutzung ein, die Ökosysteme regeneriert und biologische Vielfalt schützt. Und genau deshalb machen wir uns dafür stark, dass Schutzgebiete und Biosphärenreservate nicht nur national, sondern weltweit eingerichtet werden.
Zum Schutz der Natur folgt die Stiftung dem Dreiklang „Erhalten – Haushalten – Werthalten“ und weist damit dem Erhalt der Funktionstüchtigkeit der Ökosysteme höchste Priorität zu. Die Michael Succow Stiftung ist Partnerin im Greifswald Moor Centrum und Biosphere Reserve Institute.
