We were not passive viewers of 'content', we had to dive into the unknown, immerse ourselves in local culture, meet new people and look beyond the surface. These were the days when the most memorable experiences sprang from spontaneous interactions, and the joy of travel lay in its unpredictability and chance encounters.
Fast forward to the 2020s and travelling within any city has transformed. The richness of chance encounters and spontaneous interactions has been overshadowed by the digital world. Social media, with its relentless stream of content and sponsored narratives, has reshaped how we perceive and experience both our own city and other cities. Where once was a world of unscripted adventures, we now navigate a realm where experiences are frequently pre-defined by online discourse, clouded by the intertwining of dishonesty and the drive for monetization.
From this perspective, the idea of The Secret App was born. As a team of creators, we visualised an app that would be our perfect city guide, a digital version of the chance encounters that seeded all our early travel adventures. A beautiful, uncluttered space, an antidote to the congested, commercially driven online media and mainstream platforms we more often find ourselves in. A place where real people that make their city shine can be the guide to their city. A community of doers and creators, creating a compendium of their secret places, for the city dwellers and explorers of their cities. A place free of irrelevant and pernicious content, where great creators can be your 'chance encounter' to a world of city gems and secret places.
