The All Kerala Joint Christian Temperance Movement, founded in 1961 by all the Christian Bishops of Kerala, led the crusade against alcoholism and drug addiction through its diocesan and parish-level units across Christian churches in Kerala. During the 1980s, key leaders of the movement—Mar Joseph Pallikaprampil (Bishop of Palai & Patron of TRADA), the Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, Rev. Fr. George Kolath (then General Secretary of the Temperance Movement), and Sr. Dr. Joan Chunkapura MMS (Secretary of TRADA)—recognized the urgent need for dedicated treatment centers for individuals battling addiction. This realization led to the establishment of TRADA (Total Response to Alcohol and Drug Abuse) on September 7, 1987, as a charitable organization committed to providing effective addiction treatment and raising public awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
