The oldest barbershop in the world
Truefitt & Hill is the oldest barbershop in the world, as certified by Guinness Book of World Records in April 2000. Truefitt was established in 1805 by William Francis Truefitt. Truefitt styled himself as hairdresser to the British Royal Court and the firm received their first Royal Warrant from King George III.
Truefitt & Hill has existed in the Chicago area for almost 25 years under different ownerships and locations. A barber named Kirk Marchant was the first owner to establish Truefitt & Hill in Chicago. After he passed away the barbershop location relocated to the loop under the ownership of Linda Mountford, who operated it with another partner. Linda is still involved in Truefitt & Hill as the products distributer in Canada. During the covid pandemic of 2020, the loop location closed, but soon after Linda was able to transfer the ownership of the Chicago location to Azhar Kazim. Kazim still works and manages the Chicago locations and his family are actively involved in the business, including their son Yousef, who has an english and a middle eastern heritage.
