VeriSkills™ is owned by Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre Limited (QTAC), a registered educational charity owned by Australian universities. QTAC has over 40 years’ experience verifying skills and experience for university entrance. As part of Australia’s qualifications eco-system QTAC is powering VeriSkills™ to ensure courses and training programs continue to provide meaning to a person’s skills, credentials and experience allowing them to be better matched for future opportunities. In an unknown future workforce how will you select candidates for a future that cannot be anticipated? What skills and qualifications will you search for as the workforce moves towards automation and collaboration with roles that don’t exist yet? How will we prepare the workforce for professional development in this ever-changing environment? Skills that raise employability, enhance worker adaptation and provide enduring careers and that cannot be easily automated are what will differentiate individuals in the future workforce. However, they are difficult to measure. These skills are known as human capabilities, and as we move towards automation, these are the skills that will determine an individual’s suitability for a role. It is more critical than ever that we provide individuals the opportunity to hone these human capabilities (also known as ‘soft skills’) and provide a framework to measure and assess an individual’s performance against each capability. To substantiate these capabilities, learning and development courses, training programs, professional development and other similar programs should measure these abilities and provide clear outcomes as to what capabilities are attained from each course. Course outcomes need to be transferable and generalisable, providing tangible professional development that is relevant across different organisations, roles and industries.
