Zone 5300, tijdschrift voor Strips, Cultuur & Curiosa, verschijnt sinds oktober 1994. Zone 5300 is een initiatief van striptekenaar Robert van der Kroft en illustrator Tonio van Vugt. Beiden vonden de tijd rijp voor een tijdschrift dat het neusje van de zalm van de nationale en internationale alternatieve strips combineert met reeds gevestigde namen. Zo bevatte het allereerste nummer niet alleen werk van Marcel Ruijters en Jeroen de Leijer, maar ook een strip van Peter 'Sigmund' de Wit. Zone 5300 betekende een doorbraak voor veel tekenaars, onder wie Gummbah, Erik Kriek (Gutsman), Reid, Geleijnse & Van Tol (Fokke & Sukke) en Matthias Giesen. Naast strips besteedt Zone ook veel aandacht aan verwante zaken als muziek, film, video en B- en C-cultuur door middel van interviews, artikelen, recensies en columns. Dat gebeurt niet zelden vanuit onverwachte invalshoeken of met een dikke tong in de wang.
