Hi, my name is George, and I’m currently studying computer science and game development at the Digipen Institute of Technology, Singapore. Before starting university, I had no formal education in programming as I was taking the IB Diploma in SJI.Ever since I was in secondary school, I had a burning passion for game design, and would spend countless hours writing on paper the ideas I had for characters in an imaginary MOBA game. I would go on to flesh out the design of this game in JC, including writing pages of lore and creating unique shop items and skill trees. All this time, I’ve stayed clear of programming as it appeared indecipherable to me.All that changed when I entered NS, as together with some friends, I decided to learn my first programming language, C. With that, I made some simple console-based games like hangman, Uno, Reversi, and a memory game. I eventually transitioned to Google Sheets for its free user interface and networking capabilities, where I would program using the inbuilt formulas and Google Apps Script the two games I still play with my friends – Scattergories and a card game we call “See Games”.Where I lacked in a deeper understanding of C and C++ to program more complex games, and where I fell short in my methodology of designing games and systems, Digipen has bridged that gap and enabled me to realise my full potential. Through the numerous group projects in school, I have also gained invaluable soft skills such as conducting presentations, planning ahead, and communicating well with others.My area of expertise include:- Programming in C and modern C++- Object-oriented Programming- Game/Systems Design- Writing and Composition- Written and Verbal Communication- Teamwork
