When asked what I do for a living, I tell people that I help create ‘harmony’ in businesses by encouraging their people to develop greater communication skills and self-awareness and to make fuller contributions to a collaborative and successful workplace.Described as positive, professional and hard-working, I combine my experience as an instructional designer and training facilitator with my previous background as a ‘creative’ to build memorable and thought-provoking learning experiences. I really like working closely with my clients to ensure that the training matches their needs. My clients tell me that I demonstrate a skilful use of questioning, active listening, a great attention to detail and a welcome level of innovation. It is important to me to immerse myself in the operations and the real culture of the client and I enjoy bringing to life the actual challenges they face through the content I develop for them.I worked for many years in the entertainment industry, taking on all roles and responsibilities needed to run a small touring theatre company. This background has filled me with the confidence I need to really get behind the issues people face, to use ‘drama’ tools to help people and present about a wide range of topics.I am organised, prepared and structured in my work but I have also seen how impactful learning can be when I remain open-minded to possibilities and can flex in the moment to help participants stand back and explore any situation from different angles. Experiences in designing and delivering training events for a large number of clients has allowed me to keep learning about my own delivery style and explore the different ways of stimulating learning in others. When asked what stood out for them, clients said that they liked my ability to flex, my challenging and honest feedback, my loyalty, my partnership approach and the fact that I don’t come across as a ‘business-speak robot’ and can interact as ‘genuine human being’.
