What makes me different? Well here on Linked In, I promote my skills as a trainer: facilitator, consultant, designer, coach. Spanning over 30 years, this work has allowed me to step into the worlds of health care, finance, law, insurance, retail… even local politics. So far, so normal - there are plenty of us doing that, of course. Nor is it unusual for a facilitator like me to have a background in performance – actor, improviser, voice over, singer, composer, musician – I meet many others like me in the world of training. What adds something unique to the mix is my parallel experience as an adjudicator on the Conduct Committees of various regulatory bodies, starting in 2001 - from Investigation to Appeals via Disciplinary and then between 2004 and 2014, I was a Chair of the Fitness to Practise Panel of the General Dental Council. 23 years on, the issues around professionalism and insight still fascinate me, as well as the skills of chairing and the processes of decision making. As an adjudicator, I have been privileged to hear the arguments of top legal minds and work closely with open-minded experts from the fields of law, psychiatry, medicine, dentistry, construction and finance as well as the excitingly diverse lay people who make up the committees. These are people I would otherwise never have met and they have filled me with admiration and stretched my knowledge and skills. Combining these three strands of experience to my work as a trainer gives me unique insight: I have ‘lived experience’ of taking part in and leading complex decision-making processes where the stakes are high. In my training work in both the private and public sector, I focus on insight, reflection, humility, process, collaboration and importantly, achieving clarity about shared objectives. I take a coaching approach to everything I do and this means that I am deeply interested in what the participants and the organisation wish and need to achieve. I never stop listening and my curiosity and commitment make my work entirely bespoke. As a recent participant said, ‘This was the most useful and engaging training I have ever had’.

We have become particularly experienced in three sectors: Insurance and Finance, where we work extensively in management, leadership and sales training; Regulation and Professionalism, particularly within Health Care; and the Legal Sector, working on influencing skills. Since March 2020 we have created many imaginative 'blended learning' solutions for delivery via online platforms, creating videos, interactive exercises, drama-based demonstrations and challenging discussions that make online training engaging and effective. Participants can engage in live interactions with role-players based on case studies and receive 1-to-1 behavioural coaching sessions. Xperient bring creative and improvisational skills into the learning environment. We understand and adopt the key business objectives of your event. An Xperient training event can offer deep insights into the impact of individual’s behaviours whilst showing flexibility to the needs of the client team and each individual participant. Whether delivering challenging feedback or coaching in a respectful and considerate manner, it is always our passionate aim to encourage participants to learn more about themselves and to consider the ‘social footprint’ they may leave on those they transact business with. The interactivity was very useful. Well run and very interesting.""Really good course. My whole practice really enjoyed it.""Enjoyed the roleplay and found that it made the workshop more interesting"" Very effective delivery of what is usually a very boring topic!""Very interactive meeting. Good to have other people's experiences shared. Nice to have insights from lay member of Fitness to Practise Panel"The design of the course has been informed by my ten years of experience as a Lay Member and Chair of the Conduct Committees of the General Dental Council (GDC). We use interactive, drama-based training techniques to bring issues to life. Focussing on the participants as much as on the guidelines, together we explore the solutions to ethical dilemmas in real-life situations. It is a full day course adding up to 6 hours with up to three facilitators who are also experienced roleplayers. We perform scenarios to stimulate debate and improvise around the real dilemmas brought to us by the participants, playing all the parts and trying out different behaviours and outcomes. The backbone of the content and aims and objectives of the course is the current GDC Standards Guidance. Out of this we create the scenarios and start debates on subjects including the Public Interest, Regulation, Whistle-blowing, Scope of Practice, Consent and so on. The flow of the discussion is around self-awareness, modesty, insight, reflective practice and, most critically, how to put the patient first no matter how challenging the situation may be. Here I play Bb clarinet on Dancing Green, Bass clarinet and soprano saxophone on Mina's Waltz and am the vocalist on Shapely Wound. In September 2017 I created a new piece 'Together' to honour my old friend Eric Sanders at his book launch at BAFTA. 'Together' is based on one of his poems 'Global Society'. Also in September I was invited to perform a new version of 'Mina's Waltz' on a barge on the Thames. In January 2018 I created a piece of vocal music inspired by Sylvia Paskin's Poem 'Winter Garden'. In early 2019 I composed 'Stabat Mater', based on the poem by Phil Vernon, performed at St Pauls Covent Garden.
