As the State Member of Parliament I had a broad range of duties that fell into two broad categories comprised of parliamentary responsibilities and electorate responsibilities.To fulfil these roles competently I was required to exhibit advocacy, leadership, management, negotiation and communication skills of the highest order to effectively represent the residents and community that I was entrusted to serve. My research and analytical skills were frequently employed in negotiating beneficial outcomes to the problems and concerns of broad cross section of clients and the community.I provided a direct link between constituents, Executive Government and the Parliament. To facilitate this role I established and managed my electorate office and support staff. I facilitated meetings and worked with community groups to develop acceptable solutions to key issues of concern to them. The skills required to fulfil this function included high level interpersonal skills such as advocacy, communication, negotiation and lobbying.Understanding and debating a broad range of legislation and other issues dealt with by the Parliament and providing an effective representational link between constituents and the Parliament through communication strategies including mass media, letters, talking to large numbers of people, both privately and in public forums, and, perhaps most importantly of all, listening and researching the required topic. I was a member of the Finance and Administration Committee of the Legislative Assembly as well as Member of the Ministers Police and Community Safety Policy committee, the Local Government and Resilience Policy Committee, Chair of the Queensland Parliament Friends of Taiwan and Chair of the Queensland Parliament Friends of China.

Study Group: Design, Supply and Installation of Anodized Aluminum building signage. This project included gaining Brisbane City Council approval for road restrictions, and signage during installation. KPMG: Supply and installation of office fit out signage. The project included extensive consultation with the external Architectural Designer, gaining building management approval for access to the floors.Southbank TAFE: Supply and installation of Building signage including Internal, External and Directional Signage for 5 new Buildings across the campus. This project included consultation with the external Designers, Engineers and Contractors.

Corective Services

• Managing Prison Officer and inmate employment including rostering of staff / inmates.• Procurement and logistics of any items required including general inmate supplies (food, clothing, Manchester, Tools) and any specially requested items.• Supplier contracts management.• Management and responses to official complaints from both staff and inmates• Ensure smooth running of all facilities through implementation of new procedures. to• Reporting (written and oral) to Senior Officers. During my employment within Corrective services I was appointed to undertake special assignments and to manage a number of projects. Two of these projects were the Fit-Out and Commissioning of new prison facilities at Maryborough and the Sir David Longlands high-security prison at Wacol.
