Metabolon is a metabolomics technology company. I refined the strategy of the service business to move beyond the early adoption phase. By focusing on vertical markets and supporting key applications, broader adoption was realized. In addition, I formulated the product strategy for the company's two leading diagnostic tests (pre-diabetes, prostate cancer), focusing on un-met needs, competition, and reimbursement.

Deerac Fluidics, based in Dublin, Ireland, was in the early stages of commercializing a nanoliter liquid dispensing techology. I developed their go-to-market strategy for attacking key markets. In addition, I established their North American presence through hiring and managing the NA sales team and developing a strategic marketing plan.

DCA was considered a non-strategic asset and I was hired to increase revenue to make the unit more attractive to an outside buyer. Catalysta Partners, now part of Hatteras Venture Partners, was an early stage VC company. As partner, I evalutated the life science deal flow and served as senior management of portfolio companies. During this time, I helped to found and run Phase Bioscience.

Phase Bioscience was a start-up company based on novel polymer technology developed at Duke University. The polymers were able to rapidly and reversibly undergo heat-induced phase transitions. I helped found the company, identify the key application, raise its seed round, secure SBIR funding, and establish partnerships.

Cartesian Technologies commercialized a nanoliter dispensing and printing technologies. As part of the founding team, I worked across many aspects of the company from product development to sales. The company was successfully acquired by Genomic Solutions in Dec 2001
Research Investigator
Worked on developing novel technologies for internal use in drug discovery. Projects included novel bioanalytical sytems employing capillary electrophoresis, a combinatorial chemisty system for building chemical libraries on plastic sheets, and a high-resolution imaging system for high-throughput screening.

Worked on various aspects of capillary electrophoresis instrumentation, resulting in the successful transfer and launch HP's first CE instrument.
