Artistic Director of 509 Arts, Consultant, Chair of Hull Truck Theatre (2015 - 2022), Chair of Time and Tide Bell, interim Chair Lancaster Arts and Board Member UK Theatre. 509 Arts, provides consultancy services for the cultural sector and produces a range of creative projects including cultural policy and strategy, organisational development, public and private sector management, evaluation, impact assessment and review. Clients include arts organisations large and small, local authorities, public and voluntary sector bodies, funders, commissioners and service providers. In recent years we have made a number of major creative projects that focus on community, testimony and place. My Last Car for the Cultural Olympiad looked at car love and climate change, Bike Story for the Tour de France Grand Depart told tales of cycling, Sing and Louder Sing shared the inner lives of older men in Bradford, Calderland was a large scale community opera about the catastrophic 2015 floods in Calderdale and the Batley Variations was a music theatre exploration of the life of a northern town. Decade is a 10 year commission from Theatre in the Mill that started in 2019, tracking my personal journey from 70 to 80 alongside the changing world we live in. Meal One was a hugely successful music theatre adaptation of Ivor Cutler’s book in 2022 and we are planning a number of major arts and heritage projects for Bradford2025 City of Culture. www.509arts.co.uk
