About Andrew Bean

⭐️ Hi, my name is Andrew (Andy) Bean, and I use he/him pronouns!⚡ I am an engineer at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), which coordinates grid reliability and electricity markets for the state of New York. There, I have rotated through different departments as part of the SPARK program, contributing to each for six months and learning an immense amount about "the grid" along the way.🌲 I have a B.A. and B.E. from Dartmouth College/Thayer School of Engineering where I studied Energy Engineering modified with Public Policy. While there, I worked in data-science focused internships and solidified my belief that data is crucial to communicating between policymakers and engineers. 🧩 My favorite projects have included: working on the "System and Resource Outlook 2023-2042" at the NYISO, "Benchmarking Used E-Bike Batteries" for an external engineering client at Thayer School of Engineering, and investigating "Biomass Electricity Generation in New Hampshire" for an external public policy client at Dartmouth.🎵 My other interests include music--I play 9 instruments!--crocheting, and advocating for environmental and political issues through volunteer work. ⚙️ My top skills include Spanish (advanced), the Google Software Suite, the Microsoft Software Suite, PLEXOS and GE MARS. I am also proficient in coding languages including Matlab, R, SQL, and Excel VBA.🌏 I hope to continue to work at businesses that sit at the intersection of energy and policy. There, I believe that my strong skills in data communication and presentation can help us reach a sustainable future together.
