About Abdul Wasay Mughal
One of the very first projects I did as an Intern was to build a tracking application on Nokia Symbian. I remember reading & rereading at least a 100 forum threads related to different things I needed to do to get this working. Eventually, it was a combination of multiple little things I picked up from all the threads that led me to the solution. This led to me being offered a full time position at the same company. These two things have always helped me in life and in my career. Perseverance and Attention to Detail. When I initially made the switch from Engineering to Management, I felt like a fraud. Team Management felt like just talking but I have come to appreciate the value of building trust with my teams as well as clients through intentional communication. As Stephen R. Covey said Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.I love building lean teams and then empowering them to deliver on ambitious goals - I have helped Tintash grow from 30 people to about 130 people - I helped build a team in 3D & AR which delivered multiple projects for a Fortune 500 client - I managed 5 Stick Cricket projects and built 3 high performing teams (including hiring) - I hired a new team to build a complex frontend for a Fintech project with an aggressive 10 week deadlineI enjoy process innovation while adhering to the mantra of People Over Process - I helped define and automate a continuous feedback process at Tintash. We continue to improve this based on data - I helped improve the review process and automate it as the old process started to show signs of stress with the increase in number of employees - I designed and helped build an internal invoicing tool that streamlined this process for Tintash and saved a lot of hours. The data from this tool is now being used to empower Functional Teams to make more data driven decisions
Listed skills include Android, Mobile Applications, Mobile Devices, C++, and 21 others.

Engineering Manager
I was tasked with managing All Engineering Teams at Tintash. I did this by mentoring Team Managers for the following functional teams. iOS, Android, Web & Games
Team Manager (Games)
As Team Manager Games, I oversee all Services based game projects since Products have their own Manager. I am currently in charge of a 5 member team. I am responsible for the overall delivery of the project working in tandem with a Project Manager. I also oversee the technical and general growth of my team members making sure that they have everything necessary to be at their productive best.
Technical Project Manager
I joined Tintash with a change in focus. I moved from pure development to Production and Project Management while still contributing code and getting involved with the Design and Architecture of projects. I hit the ground running and started with the Stick Cricket Team from day one. My first task was to push a new version of Stick Cricket Premier League SPL out the door which was near completion when I joined. After this I created estimates, project breakdowns and then managed the execution and delivery of a number of Stick Cricket projects such as Stick Cricket Partnerships and Stick Cricket 2. Over time we improved the code base of the projects and used better design principles leading to less ripples and more stable builds. I also oversaw the improvement of our internal testing process to improve the quality of deliverables on the Stick Cricket projects.I also learnt Unity while at Tintash and trained new engineers in Unity because of which I now also manage projects in the Unity domain along with my responsibilities for Stick Cricket.
Software Engineer / Marmalade Lead
After successfully completing my internship I was offered a permanent position at FiveRivers that I accepted. My first task was to develop a client project in Qt for NOKIA devices. I built upon my learning at the Karachi workshop and developed a prototype for the client. The project did not make it out of the prototyping phase. My next task was to explore a cross platform framework which at the time was called Airplay. It has since been re-branded as Marmalade. This is an extremely powerful tool that deploys a code base written in C++ to a wide variety of platforms which includes iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, BB10 and LG TV etc. The proof of concept I developed on Marmalade was later turned into a 2D game titled Hazardous Highway that is live on the Google Play. This is a fairly basic game but has still crossed 500,000 downloads on the store.I was then assigned the lead role on a services project. This was an MMORPG game for a US based company titled Global Attack. Simultaneously my role morphed into being Marmalade Lead and managing a team of 4 people on various projects. I was involved in the hiring process for my team and then the training of fresh hires on the basics of Mobile Application Development, Game Development and Marmalade.I was also involved in project estimation for new projects while helping out other teams and individuals with timelines, project plans and technical issues. My achievements include:1. Creating an initial framework on top of Marmalade that made it easy for new comers to start working in the domain without being bogged down by the intricacies of the software.2. Leaving behind a decent amount of re-usable code base.3. Helped establish FiveRivers and Pepper.pk in the Google Play Store by delivering a number of well polished games and applications.4. Helped establish a dedicated and well rounded Marmalade Development Team.
Software Engineering Intern
During my internship I was introduced to Mobile Application Development. Initial focus was on games. My first project was to port a cricket game from iOS to BADA. I successfully learned BADA and the game went live on the Samsung Application Store. My second project was to create a tracking app for Symbian OS. This was a complex project which involved creating a silent application that ran at device start up and went into the background. This application periodically sent messages(SMS) to a server(predefined number) with the location of the device. The location was tracked based on device specifications i.e. on GPS enabled devices latitude, longitude was sent and on other devices the Cell ID of the GSM Tower was sent. Mapping the Cell ID to a location was handled server side. The application also intercepted SMS messages and if the sender ID(predefined number) matched then the SMS was parsed and application settings adjusted based on the commands in the message such as increasing or decreasing the interval between getting location, turning the application ON or OFF and enabling the Master Mode on the application whereby the user could not change the settings of the application or close it.Near the end of my internship I was sent to Karachi to attend a Training Workshop arranged by NOKIA conducted by foreign trainers. The workshop was designed to introduce people to the features of Qt which was at the time the Software replacing Symbian OS. Soon afterwords though NOKIA shifted strategy and moved towards Windows Mobile OS.
