CurrentDurham, N. C. based artist Tony Alderman is a fine art painter with over 30 years’ experience. Attending on full scholarship from the art department, he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama in 1985. Tony was honored with the UMA Art Area award in 1985 as well as the Centennial Award from the Blount Foundation in Alabama. From 1989 until 2008 Tony was known for his imaginative and distinctive murals. Tony painted commissioned works from upstate New York to Miami Florida including a mural for the home of the late Frank Keenan at Landfall North Carolina. During the introduction of magnet schools in North Carolina Tony was engaged to create a number of multi-wall murals in the schools. Since 2008 Tony’s work has evolved and he is primarily painting in a realist style, working predominantly as a regionalist painter. His focus is on nautical coastal paintings as well as historic town and city life. Tony’s work, while beautiful and realistic is imbued with the emotional connection he feels with his subject. He is drawn by the mystery of life in and around the sea, and how it is reflected in the people and the land. His paintings are a personal quest to better understand and commune with the spirit and unspoken emotion that each boat, building and pier represents.Tony’s work can be found in many corporate and private collections.
