The Francis Crick Institute stands as a globally renowned institution in the field of biomedical research. Within its Cancer Dynamics team, the primary areas of focus are renal cell carcinoma, the most prevalent kidney tumour, and melanoma, an extremely aggressive form of skin cancer. Through the application of evolutionary principles and a dedicated exploration of the factors influencing the evolution of cancer, the institute aims to enhance patient outcomes. Under my supervisors, Professor Samra Turajlic and Dr Irene Lobon, I analysed a whole-genome sequencing dataset obtained from Genomics England Limited. This analysis led to the identification of structural variants and chromothripsis events within melanoma genomics, ultimately contributing to the development of a multi-omic biomarker for predicting patient responses to immunotherapy.

The Functional Proteomics team explores the molecular phenotype of cancer studying protein-protein interactions, signalling, post-translational modifications and protein expression. Under my supervisors, Professor Jyoti Choudhary and Dr Graeme Benstead-Hume, I modelled relationships across BAF/PBAF complexes with a knowledge graph systems model to gain mechanistic insight into cancer.
