- Investigated the environmental and human cost of smartphones, for which I was nominated for a BSME Talent award for Best Feature in Print. This involved coordinating multiple pieces of research and expertise into each stage of a smartphone’s life (mining, manufacture, consumer use and disposal), so we could pinpoint which areas needed to improve, pushing manufacturers and government to improve transparency on the sources of conflict minerals, improve software update lifetimes and demystify the recycling process for consumers.- Analysed consumer survey data into product longevity and reliability to produce multiple outputs on how to repair common appliance faults and how it fits into a circular economy.- Investigated palm oil use, particularly in the beauty industry, and pushed for greater transparency from manufacturers about their sources. For this, I got the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil involved for a live Q&A with readers.
