As a Home Care Provider, I had the privilege of working with an adult diagnosed with cerebral palsy. In addition to creating a meaningful relationship with my employer, my responsibilities include the assistance with activities of everyday life such as feeding, administrating medication, and housekeeping tasks. Due to my employer's difficulties communicating, my skill of being very observant and detail-oriented comes into play when actively listening to my employer. I utilize my background in anthropology by continually employing empathy and cultural relativism throughout my employment. I provide emotional support by talking through problems with my employer, leading them to a solution on their own terms. I implemented a system between caretakers to keep track of the dosage of potent medication, preventing and reducing risks of overdose and life-threatening drug interactions.
