Dr. Aaron Hartman is a distinguished medical professional with a deep dedication to integrative and functional medicine. Graduating Summa Cum Laude in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995, he earned his MD from the Medical College of Virginia in 2000. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the Medical Collage of Virginia FP program in 2003 and achieved his first board certification that same year. Over the years, Dr. Hartman has accumulated numerous certifications, including a Fellowship from the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2006, board certification in Integrative and Holistic Medicine in 2015, Certification in Functional Medicine in 2017, and Board Certification in Antiaging, Regenerative, Metabolic, and Functional Medicine in 2022.Dr. Hartman's military service from 2003 to 2007 saw him rise to the rank of Major in the United States Air Force, holding key command positions such as Clinic Director of Kleber Clinic and Medical Director of the MacDill Air Force Base Brandon Community Clinic. During the time he also received the Distinguished Service Medal for his service overseas.In 2010, Dr. Hartman founded the Virginia Research Center and since 2011 he has served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine. In 2012, the Hartmans' moved to a farm outside Richmond, Virginia, where they learned about the interconnections between health, agriculture, and nutrition. This experience deepened Dr. Hartman’s interest in nutritional and ecological medicine.Dr. Hartman's commitment to integrative and functional medicine was inspired by personal experience. After adopting their daughter Anna in 2007, Dr. Hartman and his wife Rebekah sought alternative treatments when conventional medicine offered little hope. This journey spurred Dr. Hartman to apply these new treatment modalities in his clinic. This culminated in in 2017, when Dr. Hartman opened Richmond Integrative & Functional Medicine (RIFM) with the mission of applying his extensive scientific research, medical knowledge, clinical experience, and ongoing studies to provide individualized patient care. His practice embraces the principles of Functional Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Systems Biology Medicine, and Root Cause Medicine, integrating modern scientific advancements with appropriate healing traditions to optimize patient health.In 2022 his practice moved to a new location and was voted Top Functional Medicine Practice in RVA in 2023 and 2024.
