I setup Potterbox LLP in partnership with Ryan Morris to design and develop our own products for the consumer market and to also provide consultancy services for clients. Our range of consultancy services include Design, Manufacturing Planning, Innovation Practices, Project Management and Product Lifecycle Management.We are currently contracted to Leckey, designing postural care products for children. Working within the Value Engineering Team (VET), my activities included identifying ways to remove cost from the current bill of material across all aircraft programmes. This involved exploring alternative manufacturing methods, more efficient material utilisation and redesigning components and assemblies in such ways as to reduce manufacturing costs. I conceptualise a solution, and, liaising within my multifunctional team I build a business case and review the solution with senior management.

During this time I was the principal R&D Design Engineer in the Strategic Technologies department, conceptualising and developing novel, safety critical wing components on the CSeries aircraft programme, with the aim of drastically reducing part count, cost and weight. One such project involved the redesign of a sealing cap used on fasteners to protect against the adverse effects of a lightning strike, with the primary aim of reducing cost. My design reduced the current part count by 50%, and, fitted to the aircraft, projected savings are estimated to be in the region of 75% compared to the current solution.

As a design engineer my responsibilities included creating, progressing and implementing design modification proposals on the CSeries CS100 wing contract. I investigated and developed solutions for various design and manufacturing issues; created and updated models & detailed drawings accordingly, and implement the full production solution through the in house release processes.

During this period I was the focal design representative on the C-Series wing contract regarding all fasteners. Through the provision of accurate and timely information to all areas of the supply chain I ensured the acquisition of the correct parts and quantities in time for assembly, thus mitigating the impact on cost and delivery schedule as designs were finalised. In tandem with CSeries fastener management I carried out detailed optimisation design work on various components of the wing including structural ribs and parts of the main landing gear support structure.

As a leading founder of the in house innovation team I worked in a voluntary capacity on developing and implementing a range of innovative projects and initiatives. The most significant of these projects involved an innovation awareness training course, during the course of which I trained upwards of 200 employees. An added bonus of this course was that it identified a number of projects which resulted in significant process efficiency improvements and financial benefits.

Conducted detailed investigations on a variety of component assemblies on the CSeries wing contract, liaising with all relevant functions effectively to identify and focus on activities that would yield the greatest cost & weight benefits.

As principal designer on a multidisciplinary team I developed conceptual designs for various nacelle components, produced 3D models & technical drawings and provided support as designs were finalised and progressed through to manufacture.
