Planning overhauls, inspections and maintenance of large industrial boilers, turbines, generators and auxiliary plant. Managing major project work including plant upgrades.Planning and executing overhauls to an agreed budget, duration and work scope, while also ensuring that in executing the outage, defects and emergent work packages are suitably considered and appropriately addressed to balance future risk & operability against current budget and time. Achieving this requires communication with the System Operator, drawing up project and stage plans, developing work scopes, organising & chairing meetings, creating and maintaining the project risk register, stakeholder management plans, communications schedules, project roles & responsibilities matrix and various progress tracking reports.Project Engineer for B Station Upgrade. Modifications to Units 4 & 5 150MW conventional gas fired boilers at AES Ballylumford B Station in order to re-enter them into the market as new entrants meeting the most recent environmental emissions regulations (2016 IED). The modifications required significant re-engineering of the units including installing new burners, Induced Flue Gas Recirculation (IFGR) ductwork, duct water spray system and significant overhauls to other sections of equipment.

Development of assets for Electricity generation and storageProject Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Commercial & Technical Modelling, Environmental Impact Assessments, Electrical and Gas Interconnection, Costing, Tendering, Contract Negotiations, OEM & EPC Selection, Planning, Leases and Licences.

Management of Chemistry apsects associated with Power Generation including Boiler Chemistry, Water Treatment and Cooling Systems.Commissioning and management of the Water Treatment Plant for production of demineralised water via Desalination, Reverse Osmosis and Electro-deionization of seawater at Ballylumford Power Station. In 2015, I presented a project on reducing costs associated with water treatment to AES Senior Executives at the APEX awards in the Dominican Republic. The project saves ~£100K per annum using 6-sigma statistical analysis to optimise production and reduce maintenance costs. Due to the success of that project and presentation, I was subsequently tasked to lead up European and Global initiatives of a similar nature reducing the cost of water production. The Technical Authority responsible for management of the Chemistry Department in Ballylumford Power Station. The core responsibility was the management of water production and quality of water systems, including Boilers, Cooling systems and Waste water discharges. Secondary to this was quality management for fuel, lubricating and transformer oils. This was a strategic role in which I created specific chemistry instructions for optimum operation of chemistry related power plant systems, based on international standards and guidelines (IAPWS, VGB, BS, etc.). I authored various management procedures including that for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (based on legal regulations, ACOP, guidance, guidelines and standards) and had responsibilities in providing training on the operation of chemistry related systems and the handling of chemicals.
