Fast-paced, physically challenging position as a Correctional Officer at a facility that houses 1884 male offenders. Directly responsible for detention, correctional supervision, protection, control and accountability of inmates. Equal emphasis on the safety and security of corrections and administrative staff and immediate and effective response to facility incidents and disturbances. Supervise an average of 25 inmates per shift. Participated in group counseling sessions to help inmates understand their basic problems and to assist in conducting themselves in a more appropriate manner. Accomplished in establishing standards and values, improving character traits and available skills. Escort inmates on trips outside the institution, search inmates and housing areas for contraband, identify security risks and prepare written reports of all incidents. Maintain control of assigned areas of responsibility including entrances, exits, visiting room and mental health housing unit. Operate Control Center including inmate, visitor and equipment monitoring.
