Part of a team comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students that take quarterly water quality samples at the Beaver Run Reservoir in Westmoreland County. The project focuses on ensuring water quality for the 125,000+ population the reservoir provides drinking water to due to concern of Marcellus Shale Gas Pads located around the reservoir. Data is collected from several small streams and tributaries that flow into the reservoir. Total Dissolved Solids, pH, Conductivity and Temperature readings are taken from all around and within the reservoir, with separate water samples collected from major tributaries and brought back for analysis by the IUP Chemistry Dept.
