I am a self-taught front-end web developer who creates websites and tools to solve problems. I've worked as a consultant before but preferred being a team member and web developer at the Children of the Nations (COTN) international orphan organization.For 3.5 years at COTN, I was a web developer and marketing team member before taking a sabbatical of sorts to focus on raising our young kids and co-founding a marketing, training, and technical writing business with my wife.I have a strong HTML, CSS, & JavaScript foundation. Previously I've worked with Ruby on Rails. For smaller sites, I prefer using Markdown, a CMS like Jekyll, and the Jamstack. For larger sites, I enjoy the flexibility that comes from a dynamic CMS and the ease of templating (PHP, .erb, and .haml).At COTN, I authored strategic recommendations comparing the existing, custom web application against WordPress, Joomla, & Drupal. I ported our theme to WordPress and Drupal for testing. I quantified the pros, cons, and costs for management, which led to the adoption of Drupal and outsourced web development.I prefer GitHub or git-based deployment workflows and projects following Test Driven Development (TDD). I am currently working at improving my JavaScript skills, learning Node, and experimenting with the Jamstack approach to building sites and web applications.I have experience creating HTML emails, managing and tracking email campaigns, and Google Analytics. I am interested in marketing, self-publishing, and learning from entrepreneurs.Although I am primarily a front end web developer, I have a background in technical writing, university-level teaching (200 students), and I ran a successful business with my partner, an instructional designer experienced in training design, marketing, and the learning community.I prefer to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams as they provide a diverse range of viewpoints from which to learn from.
