Developed a synthetic strategy for functionalizing poly(ethylene glycol) and heparin to allow the formation of bioactive hydrogels crosslinked via covalent and non covalent interactions for controlled release applications. Expressed genetically engineering growth factors from E. Coli for use in mammalian cell proliferation assays and non-covalent crosslinking strategies. Maintained human umbilical endothelial cells and pig aortic endothelial cells for use in cellular proliferation assays. Aided in the subcutaneous implanting of hydrogels into mice to analyze the biological response of hydrogels.

Full time Guidewire R&D Engineer. Researched and developed new stainless steels and NiTi for use in non invasive surgical guidewires and embolic protection applications. Developed guidewire applications for highly doped radiopaque polymers. Daily activities also included production line support for guidewire fabrication, process improvements, and production line cost reduction.

Guidewire R&D engineering intern. Projects included characterization of strain induced martensitic NiTi, embolic protection device profile reduction, guidewire material ductility enhancements through process manipulation.

Materials engineering intern with refinery maintenance and reliability support group. Projects consisted of metallurgical performance evaluation of materials and failure analysis. Applied knowledge of fatigue, corrosion, and high temperature metal phenomenon to carbon steels, stainless steels, nickel based alloys and titanium. NACE presentation given on overhead sour water systems and amine plant materials.

Internship in quality assurance and crystal growing groups. Daily tasks included: Gage R&R studies on four point resistivity probes, FT-IR, and SSM mercury probe, working in a class 10 clean room, tracking gage accuracy, correlating different measuring medians, overseeing the growth of silicon ingot.
