In this position, I am responsible for all of the Training Coordinator duties as well as ensuring the Department’s overall compliance with federal, state, and local law. ORCA Public Safety has several heavily regulated “arms” including fire, EMS, security, and emergency dispatch. The Department is accountable to many government agencies including the Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, State Fire Marshal, and FEMA.

As Training Coordinator, I managed all new-hire and ongoing training for the Paramedics, EMTs, Firefighters, Security Officers, Dispatchers, and Access Control Officers. I was responsible for keeping track of federal and state training requirements and ensuring the Department met its training requirements. While in this position, I oversaw the preparation for two very important State inspections. The Department passed both inspections with flying colors and I was recognized as the Employee of the Quarter.

During this internship, I gained significant experience in the Human Resources field. I worked directly with the Director of Human Resources and assisted with the recruitment and onboarding of new-hires, updating the Policies and Procedures, maintaining the org charts, and updating job descriptions. The Director was very happy with my performance and I was offered a full-time position at the end of the internship.

As a Resident Assistant, I was responsible for the well-being of the 22 students living in my residence hall. I orchestrated fun and educational events in the hall and fostered a welcoming, inclusive environment. Being an RA taught me how to be a responsible leader and a mentor to my residents. It gave me organizational experience I learned how to handle tough situations with people.
