* Created the GuildPortal.com product from the ground up as the sole architect/developer/DBA, starting with ASP with VB COM components. Rewrote it in C# when .NET 1.0 was released, and have kept it moving forward with each new framework release since (up to 4.5).* Grew the product to, at one point, being one of the top 25K most popular web sites, world-wide (according to Alexa).* Maintained direct contact with customers in order to gather feature requests and provide general support.* Prioritized development time based upon urgency of issues being resolved, and decided upon which features to implement based upon what rough percentage of the user base would benefit from it, development time required, and how much complexity it would add to the product overall (running the risk of frustrating clients).* Developed a support ticket system that allows free-form submission of tickets, but which is also integrated into the site’s global error handling and the GitHub REST API – tickets are partially data GuildPortal stores, linked to a GitHub issue. Commits of code submitted from within Visual Studio with “fixes #” or “closes #” then update the issue on GitHub, keeping track of all source code changes, as well as updating the ticket on the GuildPortal side. The user is kept up-to-date on the entire process.* Managed components of the infrastructure: firewall, web, database and file servers. Conducted most standard IT tasks: keeping systems patched, upgrading operating systems and other software, configuring all systems for optimal performance under high load, and other routing maintenance.* Purchased hardware and software as required to scale, upgrade, or otherwise improve the overall operation.* SQL server database design, optimization, and administration.* Frequently optimized, unit/regression tested, and re-factored the code base.* Developed all functionality, with the exception of some UI provided by third party controls and frameworks.

* Lead developer of Campus Portal, a modular and customizable front-end for students and educators that made it easy to connect, keep up-to-date on events and news, find important information, and easily access the primary product of eCollege – the courseware.* Resolved support tickets and added new features to the courseware product, which tied in multimedia, documents (syllabus, etc.), discussion forums, supplementary content that came with textbooks, labs, and a grade book to form a complete online learning experience.* Independently organized two teams in the development of an ORM framework to be used cross-team and cross-product, to increase productivity by reducing the amount of time spent writing data access code, concretely centralize business logic, and reduce the learning curve for new/junior developers. This was before the Microsoft Entity Framework existed, and when available ORM tools were in their infancy and either too inflexible or slow.* Developed components that interacted with on-campus solutions to integrate educational institution data with our own. Primarily used BizTalk Server.* For the majority of the time at eCollege, I developed in Visual Basic and ASP classic. Towards the end, with the development of the framework, I was developing with C#.
