Engineering Manager for Tax Compliance - Payroll where I managed teams in a fast paced, remote-first Agile environment.In 2020 my team got a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a serious positive impact on our clients and their employees by helping them stay in business during the COVID crisis. We were responsible for the technical execution of the CARES Act, Families First Coronavirus Response Act, as well as the executive order for employee social security tax deferment and Recovery Startup Business - Employee Retention Tax Credit. Waystar is a leader in the SaaS Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management market and provides cloud based solutions to hospitals and clinics across the country. Waystar's core product is a web portal centered around managing healthcare EDI workflows -- Electronic Claims, Remits, Eligibility, and Prior Authorization.After transitioning from Lead to Manager, I got to build my skills in my project management and leadership. Shortly after taking the reigns I worked with the CTO in order to pilot Slack for the company, which ended up shifting the entire culture away from E-mail & IM based communications.Leading the team and managing all of their projects, I was over creating and tracking all TFS items as well as the Git structure, merging, code reviews and releases to production every 3 weeks. Five years ago when Waystar adopted Agile, I was responsible for transitioning my team of 6 developers and 4 QA through the process.

As lead engineer on the Electronic Remittances team I got to work on nearly every aspect of the remits platform. I was involved with everything from the SQL database design, the core processing services that interface with an IBM UniVerse backend, the web portal, and creating/serving massive volumes of Explanation of Benefit PDFs to our customers. Waystar also utilizes cutting edge logging technologies such as Splunk, which provide insight into our production environment with real-time querying, analytics, and alerting.

Designed and developed end-to-end systems that processed $4 billion in tax returns every week.Lead engineer on the technical implementation of TRS' 2013 Software Purchase Assistance program, which allowed new revenue opportunities through an attractive buyback system with potential clients.Created documentation and flowcharts, and was responsible for training and presenting new systems to other teams.

Responsible for the design, creation, and testing of a custom in-house CAD automation application used by all of the departments' drafters. The suite that I created was used to automate repetitive tasks that CAD techs had to do, and greatly increased the speed and accuracy of the detail checking and drafting part of our control system design.Programmed and tested embedded vital and non-vital processors used on freight rail systems.Designed relay-logic systems for freight rail crossings, and then tested the fully built designs for accuracy.

Overhauled a C# data entry application to modern coding standards while optimizing the interface to accelerate the workflow of end users.Recreated the presentation, business, and data layers after working with the SQL team to assist in the core database normalization.

Architected a software suite used to interface between lab instruments and veterinary management software.Designed custom scanner and printer interfaces in C# and VB 6.

Worked with a large team which architected a large-scale J2EE Rational SOA application.Analyzed and translated business logic diagrams into functional J2EE SOA components.Utilized JET XML for the expeditious creation of business objects.

Architected a suite of in-house tools that greatly sped up workflow and accuracy across our team.Delivered a user friendly solution that automatically checked CAD designs for errors during all phases of system design, building, and testing.
