Researched dense granular flows under the supervision of Professor Nico Gray and Dr Chris Johnson.Thesis Title: "Frictional Hysteresis in Granular Avalanches"• Investigated dense granular flows using mathematical modelling, small-scale laboratoryexperiments and numerical simulations• Collected vast amounts of experimental data from laser profilometers, high-speed cameras anda mass balance and wrote code in MATLAB to analyse this data• Developed C ++ codes to solve the equations describing my experiments numerically• Developed a new friction law able to model granular flows based on the insights from analysisof the experimental data• Extensive use of MATLAB to analyse data, produce figures and solve equations• Presented my research at seven international conferences• Written and published two papers in a high impact factor journal in 2019• Worked closely with other members of the research group to bring together insights from themodels, experiments and simulations and prepare scientific papers based on these results
