Between my third and fourth year at University I was lucky enough to obtain a year long internship at NCR Corporation in Dundee as part of my 5 year Software Engineering Bsc Honours course. Working for a fortune 500 fin-tech company allowed me to work with colleagues from all over the world on great projects with exciting technology. During my time there I was exposed to many new technologies that unfortunately University hadn’t had time to teach. Some of these technologies were Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes. Using these technologies among others, my team developed a new product that would provide NCR customers with an omni-channel cloud based solution which integrates their contact centres and enables assistance on demand for self service transactions.At NCR I was on the Banking Services Team, predominately a back-end developer working on new APIs and system logic but got the opportunity to work with Typescript to develop our testing tool to verify our back-end changes. During my time here I also learnt a lot about the product lifecycle and put into practice Agile methodology to software development that we were taught in University.

At M&S I worked as a store operator, this role involved making sure that the shopping floor had the product available to be fully stocked and was in the correct environment for the customer. This job was a great learning experience for me in terms of coping with the large task of making sure that the customer had the best possible shopping experience.

During my Christmas holiday, I worked at HMV as a sales assistant. Some of the duties that I had was being available for any customer that needed assistance and working on the checkouts. This could be a demanding job at times due to the seasonal shopping for presents but it was very valuable in showing me how to engage with customers and to provide them with a good service efficiently.
