About: The Reclaim Internet Project is a student-led technology-driven campaign against extremist content on digital spaces.With social media platforms being increasingly used to perpetuate hate speech and violent threats, with racist, misogynist, and xenophobic undertones, the digital space is replete with content aimed at radicalizing youth.Another trend our preliminary research identified, is that while the number of perpetrators of violent/extremist content is few, there are even fewer who oppose them on public platforms.To enable active opposition against violent/extremist content, we leveraged our technological prowess and strong academic research, we created a Chrome Extension dubbed called "FlagIt", which will work in conjunction with an AI foundation that prompts warnings every time a user encounters violent/extremist content on digital spaces, as well as directs users to counter-narratives to enable the formation of informed opinion.Key Responsibilities:- Designed a computational model using semantic analysis that measures the perceived toxicity of the content available online.- Developed a Google Chrome Extension that enabled users to flag any extremist content over the web.- Managed Offline Campaign across the city.
