Staff Writer, Public Affairs
Fort Polk Guardian
Fort Polk, La
While serving as a staff writer out of the Public Affairs Office in Fort Polk, Louisiana, I wrote for the Commanding General's weekly newspaper, the Fort Polk Guardian — a blend of command information, features and military training stories. As an employee of the Public Affairs Office I worked in the field reporting, performing countless interviews and writing relevant stories and features, furthering the CG's vision for the installation. Working in a small team, I was required to operate in many different capacities. Not just a writer, I also took many of my own photographs to coincide with stories. Additionally, I enhanced my layout and graphic design skills while designing each week's edition of the paper, becoming proficient with Adobe Creative Suite. At the PAO, there was always a focus on excellent community and public relations. I embodied this ideal through my writing, the relationships I cultivated through my interviews/public affairs duties and my professionalism on the job.
