I’ve been involved in Canada’s leading commercial real estate financing team for the past 23 years, recently originating more than $1.5 billion in multi-residential construction mortgages in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary.First National Financial is Canada's largest non-bank lender, originating, underwriting and servicing both residential and commercial mortgages. It takes several years to complete a successful construction project. We provide advisory services to help the Borrower mitigate against interest rate risk and overall valuation risk. My team gets involved in the early planning stages of the project. We assist the Borrower to adjust building plans to take advantage of the best possible financing options available. The early planning includes arranging the optimal long-term mortgage at the beginning stages of construction. Knowing that the long-term mortgage has already been arranged allows the Borrower to maintain the construction schedule while reducing unnecessary takeout risks down the road. Our team visits the site regularly and becomes a strategic partner when we encounter unexpected construction or market challenges.
