I designed clear, action-based palm cards to be received by voters in the district via door knocking and campaign events. I took charge of the candidate's social media, executing a consistent brand across platforms through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I recruited volunteers and sustained an energized team-effort environment to facilitate effective door knocking, phone banking and visibility stand outs. I kept volunteers up to date on events through flyers, Facebook events and printed schedules. I handled ballot forms, delegating volunteers in each town to collect signatures, then successfully got them certified by town halls and the Secretary of State's office. I made purchases of office supplies, lawn signs and other various campaign needs with the designated debit card, sending our treasurer receipts to keep track of. I distributed lawn signs through the eleven cities and towns of the district to homes of supporters, tracking them along the way for collection at campaign's end. I then mailed out thank you cards from the candidate thanking volunteers who had helped him become their next elected official. Show less
Substitute Teacher
I covered classes when teachers were not able to attend. I would get the lesson plans from the main office and go to the designated classrooms. I passed out work, told students what the assignment was and leave them to their work. My dad is a teacher and he works so hard at what he does. It was very rewarding to relieve teachers and put myself in their shoes for a day. Also, I loved school and it really made me feel a sense of worth. I started out cleaning tables and refilling napkin dispensers at the Dining Commons. I then joined the deli, where I made sandwiches. I was so excited to learn a new skill and meet and work with new people. For my final job in the commons, I worked as kitchen prep, cutting vegetables for the salad bar. I was able to learn new skills and be a versatile worker.
Intern
I had a radio show called "Your Local Liberal" where I had people on the show to talk about politics. I became enraged when Trump entered office and felt driven to do something about it. I invited guests such as members of the Westfield Democratic City Committee to discuss current events and also local issues they recognized in town. I also had friendly debate with the radio engineer as we came from different sides of the political aisle and tried to find common ground. Additional guests were the President of the university's Student Government Association and a criminal justice major. I'm glad I could start some uncomfortable, but also important conversations centered around social justice and our country as a whole. Show less
