As a Medical Scribe, I played a vital role in patient care by acquiring and documenting patients' vital signs and comprehensive medical information, including medical history, History of Present Illness (HPI), provider's examination findings, diagnoses, and prescribed procedures such as prescriptions, referrals, CT scans, ultrasounds, and MRIs. I provided crucial support to medical providers, assisting in various complex procedures like laceration repairs, foreign body removal, and bone fracture/break treatments. Additionally, I conducted procedures involving phlebotomy and point-of-care tests for EKG, influenza, streptococcus, COVID, HIV, and mononucleosis. With a strong commitment to accuracy, I prepared and labeled specimens, including blood samples, throat cultures, urine cultures, and viral cultures, following medical assistant guidance for dispatch to appropriate labs. Over the course of my microbiology research experience at Rutgers University, I rigorously adhered to Biological Safety Level standards in the lab, employing meticulous procedures to prevent contamination and ensuring proper sterilization of equipment using machinery such as the autoclave. My research focused on the intricacies of cell wall compositions, studying differences among gram-positive, gram-negative, and acid-fast cell walls. I delved into various staining techniques like the Gram stain, Ziehl-Neelsen stain, and Negative stain to differentiate cell wall compositions and shapes. Employing a diverse range of mediums, including Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar, Bile Esculin Agar, Mannitol Blue Agar, MacConkey Agar, and Eosin Methylene Blue Agar, I cultured unknown bacterial species, contributing to the identification process. Additionally, I conducted experiments assessing the effectiveness of different classes of antibiotics on various bacteria through the measurement of zone of inhibition and minimum inhibitory concentration, employing the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. Furthermore, my research investigated the accumulation of genetic mutations in microorganisms over generations, shedding light on their ability to enhance resistance to antibiotics.

Over the course of my physiology research experience at Rutgers University, I engaged in extensive research focusing on human physiology, delving into the intricacies of the brain, reflexes, skeletal muscles, heart, spinal cord, and spinal nerves. Additionally, my studies encompassed the broader functioning of essential systems within the human body, including in-depth examinations of the respiratory, cardiovascular, and endocrine systems. To deepen my understanding of organ structures, I examined species with organs analogous to those in humans, such as the sheep brain and heart. Hands-on experience included the preparation and observation of slides showcasing various human muscle tissues (smooth, cardiac, and skeletal) and tissues from glands (pituitary, adrenal, thymus, thyroid, ovary, and testes) at the cellular level. Furthermore, my research extended to the human Plantar Reflex, where I conducted in-depth investigations and compiled a detailed report, contributing valuable insights to the understanding of this physiological phenomenon.
