BECON (Black Minority Ethnic Community Organisations Network) is a race equality organisation operating across the North East from offices in Newcastle and Stockton-on-Tees. BECON provides services to BME communities addressing disadvantage, discrimination, exclusion, inequalities and racism. Services are geared to support individuals, groups and organisations to participate more fully and inclusively in the economic, social and cultural developments of their localities. BECON strives to bring about a more inclusive society promoting equality, diversity, human rights and social justice.

To be the lead reference point for Connexions Tees Valley on all matters relating to equality and diversity policy and practice.To develop the capacity of Connexions Tees Valley to provide a full service to all young people from diverse communities and marginalised circumstances.To develop the practice development team on the following themes: care and support, young people at risk, minority communities, health and well-being.

To pursue the regeneration of the Neighbourhood Management area by co-ordinating and developing multi-agency work to tackle deprivation issues, develop community involvement in Neighbourhood Management activities and to manage the Intervention team.

Responsible for the establishment, development and operational management of the Asylum Support Team (AST) which was located within the Health and Social Care service grouping of Stockton Borough Council. The composition of the AST copnsisted of four support workers, a children & young persons support worker and a team clerk. Working alongside the AST was a nurse practitioner, health care assistant and a housing worker. I also provided professional supervision and support to a community development worker for refugee communities employed by Stockton International Family Centre (SIFC).
