    As my Unit had entered into the process of procuring external legal advisers, a business manager was required. I was selected due to my demonstration of the abilities required to execute this vital function. In this role, I am responsible for delivering and managing this contract. My activities include: - Managing the day-to-day business of the contract, and dealing with any issues that arise, escalating if deemed necessary;- Ensuring that the unit receives the services it requires in time and with cost-savings;- Managing the relationship between officials and external legal advisers; - Conducting regular meetings with stakeholders including suppliers, government lawyers and planning officials to discuss lessons learned, and how we can optimise delivery;-Organising events that deliver learning and development in relation to legal developments in the Unit's area through working and negotiating with suppliers;- Handling the monitoring of KPIs; and- Managing the financial aspect of the contract i.e. budgeting/forecasting, payments and cost-savings. I have also retained planning casework responsibilities and am managing applications for large and nationally significant infrastructure projects. My activities are the same as below.

    I currently work for the Transport Infrastructure Planning Unit at the Department for Transport. The Unit receives applications for planning consent under the Transport and Works Act 1992 and Planning Act 2008. In addition to the business management responsibility outlined above, my activities include:- Managing applications in line with statutory rules, ensuring each application is consistent with government policy, legally acceptable and meets the required legal drafting standards; - Evaluating complex reports from planning Inspectors on national infrastructure projects and assessing the key issues and potential problems/risks;- Assessing representations/arguments made by a diverse range of parties including objectors to make an appropriate decision;- Making recommendations to the Secretary of State of Transport that withstand the threat of legal challenge;- Drafting procurement documents including bid-packs and statements of requirements; and- Managing the phases of the procurement process including the construction of contractual documents, engaging with the relevant stakeholders, and driving the process forward.

    Social Action for Health is a charity dedicated to reducing health inequalities. One of the projects they are currently involved with is called 'Genes and Health'. It is the world's largest community based medical research project. They are looking to understand why the prevalence of diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, and stroke is so high in the South Asian community. In particular, the Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities. The goal is to use our findings to produce better targeted, and thus, more effective treatment and education amongst members of these communities in the UK, and abroad. As a delegated researcher, I acted as an ambassador for the organisation. I attended venues, engaged with members of the community, informed them of our work and collected their DNA. The samples were then handled by a team of scientists headed by Geneticists at Queen Mary University, University of London.
