My life outside of medicine begins here. After spending 6 years in one extremely specialized field, I wanted to expand my knowledge and experience in different areas. I want to be a well rounded individual that can easily glide through the numerous avenues of life and professionalism. The ability to sell came first. In this life, we are constantly selling; at work we sell our time for currency, in business we sell products and in interviews we sell our experience. I figured, acquiring the fundamentals of this ability is a great way to ensure I can always position myself well. What did I learn from this position:- Sales has a lot to more to do with connecting and building trust than I initially thought.- Demeanor is very telling. If you do not believe in your pitch, no one else will.- Small talk as a skill is not emphasized enough.- Working in a team is delicate and requires a great deal of finesse and understanding.- Good leadership will make or break a company.What did I do in this position:- Implemented up-selling strategies and techniques to secure sales.- Worked alongside retail representatives to boost sales.- Consistently met sales quotas and budgetary targets. - Maintained records related to sales, returns and inventory availability.

My medical observeship started in February 2017 and lasted until January 2018. From February 2018 I began my medical internship that lasted until June 2019. These 2 and a half years were full of tough times, exhausting hours and a lot of perseverance. I was fortunate to work under amazing doctors who taught and trained me with diligence and great patience, the results becoming evident with my ability to pass each department exam and clearing my graduation exams in one go.What did I learn in this position: - The world of medicine is grueling and doctors deserve the utmost respect.- Excellent teachers create excellent students, and vice versa.- If you are well rested, you are not working hard enough.- Asking for clarification may be embarrassing, but it is so much better than making a mistake that could have easily been avoided.- Understanding your limitations and capabilities is integral to your personal growth. What did I do in this position?- Completed clinical rotations and examinations in the various departments of Internal Medicine, Neuroscience, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Emergency Care, Psychiatry, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and Infectious disease.- Attended and assisted in several surgeries under the tutelage of the surgical staff.- Provided aid to foreign patients with their medical treatment by easing the language barrier between them and the Chinese doctors.- Measured vitals to establish patient for physician diagnosis as well as handling samples, blood, and urine, for pathological testing.

My first time teaching was a disaster. I could not control the students, I lacked preparation and I was very nervous. At the end of that day I decided teaching was not for me. Fast forward almost a year later, my next teaching job came by coincidence and I decided to give it another shot. A decision I am extremely grateful for. With a little bit of experience on my side this time, I was able to better prepare myself and acquire a permanent part-time position off of the first trial class.What did I learn in this position:- "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail"- Sometimes life teaches us lessons the hard way, and it is only through these harsh failures that one can learn something truly valuable.- Good time management is the core of achieving excellence in any field.- Leadership is a lot like a balancing act, lean too much to one side and you will fall flat on your face.- Patience is not just about waiting, but also being understanding and empathetic.What did I do in this position:- Taught English for multiple years. Working with children, teenagers and adults, helping them understand and grasp concepts pertaining to the English language.- Created class content, presentations and coordinating events for students as well as parents.- Worked as a private tutor with children from ages 3-6. Helping them develop an understanding of the very basics of the English language. Along with supervising their activities and scheduling their days.

My journey to realizing my career aspirations began here. At 18 I moved to Wuhan, China and began a 6 year undertaking that ended on my 24th birthday with a Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery. Out of the 85+ students who started the course, only 33 of us made it graduation. The life lessons learned, experiences in and out of the medical field, and personal growth that came with successfully immersing myself in a completely different society have shaped me into the person I am today. I could fill books on my life during that period {Which I am actually doing}, but for now this will suffice.What did I learn in this position?- Just because you can not see the end, does not mean you should not start.- Success is rarely ever a solitary achievement.- Discipline is the foundation that success is built upon.- Being scared or uncomfortable or anxious is not a weakness, but it must be overcome.- Never let being younger or less qualified deter you. Hard work, diligence and perseverance can easily make up for the lack of experience. What did I do in this position?- Successfully acquired an MBBS degree in the allotted time.- Learned the basics of medicine and the fundamentals of surgery.- Completed 15 mandatory Mandarin courses.- Achieved Level 4 HSK level with a mark of 213.
