I’m a junior majoring in journalism and economics at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. As an aspiring sports broadcaster, I pride myself on being a versatile multimedia journalist committed to growing as a sportscaster, writer and storyteller.While most journalists go into the field shy of numbers, I embrace them. Whether I’m calling a game or writing an article, data and statistics drive my journalistic voice. Last summer, as a broadcasting intern with the Arroyo Seco Saints in the California Collegiate League, I created a spreadsheet tool to help pull relevant player trends and splits for 35 summer league broadcasts. With Inside NU, Northwestern’s SB Nation site last spring, I used data visualizations to spur a “Visualizing Softball through the Numbers” series that uses analytics and graphics to cover Northwestern’s softball team. I have since expanded my spreadsheet tool and series to cover basketball, volleyball, football and softball.At Northwestern, I broadcast games for WNUR Sports (radio) and Big Ten Plus (television). As the Social Media Director for WNUR Sports, I’m responsible for creating captivating social media content for the station’s TikTok, Instagram and X accounts. With Big Ten Plus, I’ve worked in the control room and operated cameras alongside calling a range of Northwestern sports. These experiences have enhanced my understanding of production and made me a stronger broadcaster.Outside of broadcasting, I’m co-Editor-in-Chief of Inside NU, where I oversee a staff of 25 writers, create weekly budgets, live-tweet games and edit, publish and write weekly articles. I’ve loved the creative freedom to pursue sports writing and cover big games like Northwestern basketball’s first upset over top-ranked Purdue. The second time Northwestern defeated No. 1 Purdue, I covered the game for NNN SportsNight where I’m an anchor and analyst. Comfortable behind the camera as a broadcaster, SportsNight gives me an opportunity to get in front of the camera for on court standups, create packages and continue to add to my versatility as a multi-faceted storyteller.I've also worked as a summer camp counselor at NJY Camps for three years. As a senior counselor in 2023, I spearheaded program planning, while supervising 25 staff members and 60 campers. In a fast-paced environment, bridging the gap between campers, staff and the directors strengthened my logistical, communication and leadership skills.
